Denise is an experienced outdoor practitioner with over 20 years experience across a broad range of settings. She has worked in every aspect of the sector including; primary through to tertiary age groups, corporate team development, youth at risk including alternative to custody programs, expeditions and guiding. Her dominant professional focus has been on mental and emotional wellbeing. This has included working with both harder to reach young adults, using the outdoors to foster positive behaviour change; as well as developing outdoor programs to integrate with existing mental health interventions.
Denise holds a BCU Level 4 white water coaching qualification as well as a Level 3 in Sea Kayaking and Open Canoeing. She is a 5* Sea Kayak Leader and can assess up to 3* across these disciplines. Alongside this she has achieved Mountaineering, Climbing and Mountain Biking qualifications. Denise has worked professionally in the UK, Canada and New Zealand and competed at a Regional, National and International levels in kayak slalom and white water rafting. Denise is an Accredited Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning and a mentor for IOL members. She is currently completing her MA Outdoor Education Dissertation focusing on gender parity and perceptions within the tertiary education setting.
